What is Gaviscon and what is it for?
Gaviscon is a medicine that belongs to the class of drugs for the treatment of peptic ulcer and gastroesophageal reflux disease and is used for the symptomatic treatment of occasional heartburn.
Dosage and Posology
How to take Gaviscon?
Adults and adolescents (12-18 years): 2-4 tablets after meals and at bedtime.
Warning: do not exceed the indicated doses.
Special populations
Elderly: it is not necessary to change the doses for this age group.
Patients with renal insufficiency: the reduced ability to eliminate the exogenous saline supplement provided by antacids with urine can affect potentially severe electrolyte imbalances.
When and for how long
Only use Gaviscon for short periods of treatment. Consult your doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve after seven days of treatment, if the disorder occurs repeatedly or if you notice any recent changes in its characteristics.
Method of Administration
The tablets must be chewed well (they can be broken up and chewed a little at a time). You can then drink a little water.

Popolazioni speciali
Anziani: non è necessario modificare le dosi per questa fascia d’età.
Pazienti con insufficienza renale: la ridotta capacità di eliminare con l’urina il supplemento salino esogeno fornito dagli antiacidi può condizionare squilibri elettrolitici potenzialmente severi.
Quando e per quanto tempo
Usi Gaviscon solo per brevi periodi di trattamento. Consulti il medico se i sintomi peggiorano o non migliorano dopo sette giorni di trattamento, se il disturbo si presenta ripetutamente o se nota un qualsiasi cambiamento recente delle sue caratteristiche.
Modalità di Somministrazione
Le compresse devono essere ben masticate (possono essere spezzate e masticate un po’ alla volta). Successivamente si può bere un po’ d’acqua.
