Melatonin plays an important role in regulating the biological circadian rhythm. Melatonin regulates the hours of sleep and wakefulness during the day. Endogenous melatonin is characterized by a characteristic circadian rhythm of synthesis and secretion. During the day, the concentrations of this hormone are low, and the highest at night. In addition to the circadian profile of melatonin secretion, there is also a seasonal rhythm resulting from changes in the length of light in different seasons.
Composition
1 tablet of Melatonina LEK-AM contains the active substance: 5 mg of melatonin
and auxiliary substances: microcrystalline cellulose 102, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, colloidal anhydrous silica.
Dosage
In sleep disorders related to time zone changes :
2 mg to 3 mg of melatonin once daily after dark, starting on the first day of travel.
Continue treatment for 2-3 days after the end of travel.
In sleep-wake circadian rhythm disorders related to, for example, shift work :
1 mg to 5 mg daily, one hour before sleep.
In sleep-wake circadian rhythm disorders in blind people, 0.5 mg to 5 mg once daily around 9:00-10:00 p.m.
This dosage also applies to long-term use of the drug.
The drug’s effect is observed gradually, often after 2 weeks of taking the drug.
Indications
Melatonina LEK-AM is used as a supporting drug in:
- sleep disorders related to sleep-wake rhythm disorders, e.g. in sleep disorders related to time zone changes or shift work,
- disturbances of the circadian rhythm of sleep and wakefulness in blind patients.
