This lack of XUE XU blood causes secondary heat from RE XU deficiency, which then settles in the chest and attacks the XIN heart. Insufficient blood XUE XU does not control (“hold and anchor”) yang YANG SHI, which then rises. Conversely, when yin YIN rises and yang yang falls, one can fall asleep. While we are awake (during the day), our spirit SHEN settles in the eyes. At night, when the eyes are closed, GAN returns to the liver. In case of insufficient blood in the liver of GAN XUE XU, they cannot completely retain the spirit of SHEN.
