Properties:
Chondroitin: essential constituent of the cartilage matrix of the joints, produced by the body.
Glucosamine: an essential element of cartilage, made by the body.
MSM: sulfur substance found in food or plants such as horsetail and which participates in the constitution of proteoglycans in cartilage.
Collagen: protein of cartilage but also of tendons, ligaments, connective tissues
Vitamin C: contribution to the formation of collagen to ensure normal cartilage function
The chondroitin is a sulfated glycosaminoglycan related to hyaluronic acid, which is used in the production of proteoglycans (a combination of protein and carbohydrate). Chondroitin sulfate is a component of the cartilage matrix; it contributes to the hydration of the cartilage, and therefore to its flexibility and elasticity
For its part, glucosamine sulfate is an amino sugar which is used for the synthesis of several macromolecules present in different tissues, including cartilage.
Healthy chondrocytes normally synthesize chondroitin and glucosamine from glucose in food after several biochemical reactions. In the event of osteoarthritis, even chondrocytes well supplied with glucose can no longer perform their task properly. In addition, the body’s production of these two substances gradually decreases with age. The glucosamine-chondroitin association is relevant since the mechanisms of action of these two molecules are different and complementary.
It is estimated that taking these two products improves the condition of people with arthritis in about 80% of cases. There are commercially available preparations combining these two molecules, but their dosage is often insufficient.
