The drug may inhibit a. the sticking together and clumping of blood platelets (thrombocytes) and thereby prevents the formation of blood clots (thrombi) (inhibition of platelet aggregation).
The medicine is used in:
unstable angina pectoris (heart pain due to circulatory disorders in the coronary arteries) – as part of standard therapy
acute myocardial infarction – as part of standard therapy
to prevent another heart attack after the first heart attack (for re-infarction prophylaxis)
after operations or other interventions on arterial blood vessels (after arterial vascular surgery or interventional interventions e.g. after aortocoronary vein bypass [ACVB], after percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty [PTCA])
For the prevention of temporary insufficient blood flow in the brain (TIA: transient ischemic attacks) and cerebral infarctions after previous stages (e.g. temporary paralysis of the face or arm muscles or temporary loss of vision) have occurred

Das Arzneimittel hemmt u. a. das Zusammenhaften und Verklumpen von Blutplättchen (Thrombozyten) und beugt dadurch der Entstehung von Blutgerinnseln (Thromben) vor (Thrombozytenaggregationshemmung).
Das Arzneimittel wird angewendet bei:
instabiler Angina pectoris (Herzschmerzen aufgrund von Durchblutungsstörungen in den Herzkranzgefäßen) – als Teil der Standardtherapie
akutem Herzinfarkt – als Teil der Standardtherapie
zur Vorbeugung eines weiteren Herzinfarktes nach erstem Herzinfarkt (zur Reinfarktprophylaxe)
nach Operationen oder anderen Eingriffen an arteriellen Blutgefäßen (nach arteriellen gefäßchirurgischen oder interventionellen Eingriffen z. B. nach aortokoronarem Venen-Bypass [ACVB], bei perkutaner transluminaler koronarer Angioplastie [PTCA])
zur Vorbeugung von vorübergehender Mangeldurchblutung im Gehirn (TIA: transitorischen ischämischen Attacken) und Hirninfarkten, nachdem Vorläuferstadien (z. B. vorübergehende Lähmungserscheinungen im Gesicht oder der Armmuskulatur oder vorübergehender Sehverlust) aufgetreten sind
