Warnings and Precautions:
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Phosphalugel.
Take special care with Phosphalugel if you have kidney problems (creatinine clearance = 30 ml / min). In this case, you should only take Phosphalugel if your doctor regularly checks your aluminum serum level.
Children:
Phosphalugel should not be used to treat children under 12 years of age because there is insufficient experience in this age group.
Taking other medicines:
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or plan to take or use other medicines. The simultaneous intake of Phosphalugel with certain antibiotics such as tetracyclines and quinolone derivatives such as ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin leads to a reduction in antibiotic intake. The inclusion of drugs that contain iron,
Containing sodium fluoride, chenodeoxycholic acid or ranitidine can also be reduced. It is therefore generally recommended not to take Phosphalugel and other medicines at the same time, but every 2 hours.
Taking Phosphalugel with food, drink and alcohol:
Do not take Phosphalugel with acidic drinks (such as fruit juices and wine etc.) at the same time, but also keep a two-hour interval here, as otherwise the undesirable absorption of aluminum phosphate can be increased.
Pregnancy and breast feeding period:
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. The safety of the use of Phosphalugel during pregnancy and lactation has not been studied in clinical trials, so it should be used with caution.
Pregnancy:
The benefit-risk balance should be carefully considered before taking aluminum-containing antacids during pregnancy. The drug should only be used for a short time during pregnancy to avoid exposing the child to aluminum.
Lactation:
Aluminum compounds are excreted in breast milk. A risk for the newborn is not to be assumed, since only very small amounts are absorbed.
Phosphalugel contains sorbitol:
Please only take Phosphalugel after consulting your doctor if you know that you have an intolerance to some sugars. One sachet contains 3.14 g sorbitol (a source of 0.74 g fructose) corresponding to approx. 0.26 bread units (BE). Sorbitol can have a slightly laxative effect. The aluminum serum level should be checked regularly for long-term use and should not exceed 40 µg / l. Note for diabetics: Phosphalugel is suitable for diabetics. 1 sachet contains 3.14 g of the sugar substitute sorbitol, corresponding to 0.26 BE.
