Therapeutic indications
Short-term treatment of occasional constipation.
Dosage
Adults 10 g per day (equivalent to 1 tablespoon) as a starting dose, followed by 5 g per day as maintenance therapy. In some subjects, a higher starting dose (10 – 20 g) may be required, which must then be progressively reduced to the ordinary maintenance dose. In sensitive subjects it is advisable instead to adopt lower dosages. Children • 6 to 14 years: 10 g per day (3 teaspoons) as a starting dose, followed by 6 g per day as maintenance therapy (2 teaspoons). • from 1 to 5 years: 3 – 6 g per day (1 – 2 teaspoons). • infants: 3 g per day (1 teaspoon). 1 tablespoon = 15ml = 10g of lactulose. 1 teaspoon = 5ml = 3.3g of lactulose. The correct dose is the minimum sufficient to produce an easy evacuation of soft faeces. It is advisable to initially use the minimum doses provided. When necessary, the dose can then be increased, but without ever exceeding the maximum indicated. Take preferably in the evening. The daily dose can also be taken in a single dose, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach or in the evening before a meal. Swallow with an adequate amount of water (a large glass). A diet rich in liquids favors the effect of the medicine. Laxatives should be used as infrequently as possible and for no more than seven days. Use for longer periods of time requires a doctor’s prescription after adequate evaluation of the individual case.

In certi soggetti può essere richiesta una dose iniziale più alta (10 – 20 g) che deve essere quindi progressivamente ridotta fino alla ordinaria dose di mantenimento. In soggetti sensibili è consigliabile invece adottare posologie più basse. Bambini • da 6 a 14 anni: 10 g al giorno (3 cucchiaini) come dose iniziale, seguiti da 6 g al giorno come terapia di mantenimento (2 cucchiaini). • da 1 a 5 anni: 3 – 6 g al giorno (1 – 2 cucchiaini). • lattanti: 3 g al giorno (1 cucchiaino). 1 cucchiaio da tavola = 15 ml = 10 g di lattulosio. 1 cucchiaino da caffè = 5 ml = 3,3 g di lattulosio. La dose corretta è quella minima sufficiente a produrre una facile evacuazione di feci molli. È consigliabile usare inizialmente le dosi minime previste. Quando necessario, la dose può essere poi aumentata, ma senza mai superare quella massima indicata. Assumere preferibilmente la sera. La dose giornaliera può essere assunta anche in un’unica somministrazione, preferibilmente la mattina a digiuno o la sera prima del pasto. Ingerire insieme ad una adeguata quantità di acqua (un bicchiere abbondante). Una dieta ricca di liquidi favorisce l’effetto del medicinale. I lassativi devono essere usati il meno frequentemente possibile e per non più di sette giorni. L’uso per periodi di tempo maggiori richiede la prescrizione del medico dopo adeguata valutazione del singolo caso.
